Overview
Duo Security is implementing security updates that affect older browsers, devices, and versions of the Duo Mobile app.
To avoid interruptions when logging in with Duo, users should ensure:
-
their web browser is up to date
-
their mobile device can run a supported operating system
-
the Duo Mobile app is updated
What Users May See During Login
During authentication, the Duo Universal Prompt may display a message indicating that a userβs browser or device is outdated or no longer supported.
This message is generated by Duo and may appear if:
-
the web browser is too old
-
the device operating system is no longer supported
-
the installed Duo Mobile app cannot be updated
If this message appears, the user will be prompted to update their browser, update Duo Mobile, or use a different device before authentication can continue.
This is expected behavior and is intended to protect account security.
What Users Need to Do
β
Update Your Web Browser
Make sure you are using a current version of a supported browser, such as:
-
Chrome
-
Firefox
-
Edge
-
Safari
Updating your browser often resolves login issues immediately.
β
Update the Duo Mobile App
Ensure you are running Duo Mobile version 4.85.0 or newer.
Download or update Duo Mobile:
β
Verify Your Device Operating System
Your phone or tablet must be running a supported operating system in order to install the latest Duo Mobile updates.
Recommended minimum versions:
-
iOS: 15 or newer
-
Android: 10 or newer
If your device cannot be updated to a supported OS version, Duo Mobile may no longer function on that device.
What Happens If I Donβt Update?
After February 2, 2026, users with outdated browsers or unsupported devices may experience:
-
Duo Push notifications failing
-
Inability to complete Duo authentication
-
Messages indicating the browser or device is not supported
Updating ahead of time prevents these issues. After March 31, the changes will be permanent and everybody will need to be sure they meet minimum requirements.
Do I Need a New Phone or Computer?
Most users do not need new hardware.
However, if your device:
-
cannot update to a supported OS version, and
-
cannot install a current version of Duo Mobile,
you may need to use a newer device. However, SMS passcodes are not affects, so this is a viable fallback option. Contact ITS for assistance or with alternate authentication options (if available).
Need Help?
