How do I set up a Zebra Label printer at the Student Mail Center?

Setting up the new printer

This document focuses on setting up a printer from scratch on a freshly deployed system. The process can be the same for replacing a printer on an existing workstation. However, it would be necessary to remove the existing printer first.

  • Un-package the printer and connect it to power and networking. The correct VLAN for the printer is VLAN 8. There are currently DHCP reservations as follow:
    • host D9N233201135 {

              hardware ethernet 60:95:32:09:B0:C7 ;
              fixed-address 137.142.8.54;
      }
  • Download the driver from the Zebra site:
    • ​​​​​​Page at the zebra.com/downloads website.
    • Visit https://zebra.com/downloads and select the printers option from the available selections
    • ZD621 Series Printer Support papge at https://zebra.com/downloadsType in the model number of the printer. In this case, ZD621. Notice that the screen shows the available options for the ZD621 printer. Select the option for the ZD621 Series Support.

    • Terms of service acknowledgement prior to downloadThe license agreement must be accepted before downloading the file.  Once the download is complete it will be in a folder of choice as shown in the example below.
      • Downloaded file information.
    • Once the file is downloaded it can be used to install the driver. The system will un-package the file to a root folder and then automatically run the installer. It is recommended to right click the file and run this as an administrator. The images below outline the process

    • Select the 203DPI version of the printer from the list of available printers

    • Information can be added to location and comments if desired.

    • There are two error messages that pop up during installation. They can be ignored as the installation will complete sucessfully.

Configuring the Printer

After the installation is complete, it will be necessary to configure the printer to work with the SendSuite software.

Use the Windows Settings application to access the Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners options. Select the ZD621 printer

  • After selecting the printer, click on the printer properties option

  • To perform these tasks, it is necessary to click the administrative "Change Properties" button and authenticate as an administrator.

  • In the Driver Settings tab, click on the Stocks option to create a new configuration.

  • Click on the New button to create the new configuration. Note the settings below.

  • Note the saved configuration is now in the list of stocks.

  • Exit the Printer Properties module and open the Printing Preferences module

  • In the page setiup tab, choose the newly created stock from the dropdown.

  • Once the stock is chosen click OK to save the configuration
