Duo Mobile App, Browser, and Device Update Requirements

Keep Duo Mobile, your phone or tablet operating system, and your browser up to date. Older versions may be unsupported or blocked by campus policy.

Update your software

  1. Install the latest Duo Mobile version available for your supported device from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  2. Install supported operating-system updates for your phone or tablet.
  3. Update the browser used for campus sign-in, such as Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari.

Check the current requirements in Duo Mobile for iOS, Duo Mobile for Android, and Duo's browser guidance. Requirements change over time; an old minimum version is not a recommendation to stop updating.

If Duo shows an update warning or blocks sign-in

Follow the instructions on the prompt. An update warning and an access block are different outcomes; what you see depends on the device, software, and applicable policy. If you cannot update or still cannot sign in, contact ITS with your device type, OS version, browser version, and the error message. Do not send passwords, activation QR codes, or sign-in codes.

Do not uninstall Duo Mobile or remove your only working method as a troubleshooting step without a recovery plan. Reinstalling the app does not necessarily restore your campus activation.

Text-message authentication is being phased out. If your device cannot run supported software, ask ITS about an available alternative rather than relying on SMS. No hardware purchase or token eligibility is guaranteed by this article.
